BISM3222 - Information Analysis and System Design

PROJECT: Queer Connect

YEAR: 2021

BISM3222 is a Business Management course that focuses on how we design information systems and software to help businesses achieve their aims and objectives. The brief for this course was the design a system (that would overlay an existing business database system) that would help a business achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. This was done by designing a user-facing system in Adobe XD - in which we were also allowed to use UX Design Kits by Apple and Google - as well as creating accompanying system diagrams (which included Class Diagrams, System Sequence Diagrams and Use Case Diagrams).

The focus of this course was on the design of information systems, as such UX Design principles weren’t as important for the grading criteria but was still important in creating justifications for the success and usability of the system. For my project, I decided to focus on SDG Target 16.B - “Promote and enforce non-discriminatory laws and policies for sustainable development.” I decided to design an app that would provide a way for LGBTQIA+ community members to more easily find and connect with groups and businesses that are supportive and friendly to queer people. By doing so, the aim was that businesses who had inclusive and non-discriminatory policies would build a positive reputation, encouraging others to adopt similar policies.
