DECO1100 - Design Thinking

PROJECT: ARTIFICIAL NIGHT SKY

YEAR: 2019

Design Thinking was the first course to focus on the UX Design Process: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. This course was focused on ensuring we knew how to apply this process to an actual project, start to finish as well as to build up our teamwork skills.

The brief for this project was “how might we design site-specific technologies that promote certain people to collectively experience the [UQ] campus as enchanted?”

Based on research we conducted throughout the first few weeks of the semester - which included interviews, observations and other user testing - my team wanted to create an installation that would help students relax and de-stress during busy and often overwhelming study periods.

Artificial Night Sky makes use of colour psychology and sounds to help users relax, with the experience being tailored to what the user what feeling before they went in. As such, every experience will be different based on what they are feeling at the time. The installation makes use of a tent, bluetooth speaker, galaxy light and projector in order to create an enchanted experience that would users relax and take time to escape from what was causing them negative feelings.
