DECO1400 - Introduction to Web Design
PROJECT: PERCY JACKSON & TECH
YEAR: 2019
This introductory course introduced a lot of the core and basic components for web design, including good design principles, technical skill in HTML, CSS and JavaScript as well as also introducing the idea of iterative-based design alongside DECO1100.
The brief for this course was to design a website that would present educational contents to users with the visuals and themes of a fictional book, aimed at a younger target audience.
For this, I wanted to provide a space for young people to learn about the components that go into the computers they used, both in hardware and software. I used the fictional Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan as my visual and narrative themes. Starting with basic wire-frames and grey-boxes, I iteratively designed the website throughout the semester, with various milestone deliverables where I had the opportunity the work I had done up to that point and collect feedback to improve the usability and visuals of the site.
This was some of my earliest work, so it’s not as refined as my current work would be, but I believe it is important to show where we’ve started and how far we’ve come in our skills.
